This blog post is about the 1955 Animated film Lady and the Tramp. It is the 15th feature length Disney Animation film.
Lady and the Tramp was released on 22nd June 1955 and was produced by Walt Disney. It is based on the Cosmopolitan magazine story Happy Dan, the Cynical Dog written by Ward Greene.

The film starts in the home of Jim Dear and Darling at Christmas time. Jim Dear gives Darling a present of a cocker spaniel puppy which they name Lady.
Lady grows up in pampered luxury and makes friends with two neighborhood dogs called Trusty and Jock.
One day, Lady’s owners begin to act strangely and treat Lady differently. Jock and Trusty along with the help of a stray dog called Tramp explain to Lady that Darling is expecting a baby.
Shortly after the baby is born, Jim Dear and Darling go on a trip leaving Lady and the baby with Jim’s Aunt Sarah. Before leaving Jim instructs Lady to help Aunt Sarah look after the baby.
While Aunt Sarah is in charge, Lady has several adventures with the help of Tramp and meets various different characters including a Beaver. While on their adventures Tramp and Lady fall in love.
The film ends with Lady, Tramp, Jock, Trusty along with Jim Dear, Darling and the baby celebrating Christmas with some new arrivals.

Lady was inspired by a drawing one of Walt Disney’s “storymen” showed him of his own cocker spaniel.
In an early version of the script, it was Lady who was meant to kill the rat in the baby’s bedroom.
Tramp’s pet name for Lady is Pidge.
Early versions of the script had Tramp’s name as Homer, Hobo, Rags, and Bozo

I will rate the film into five categories, lighting, sound, sadness, scariness and Autism friendly. I will also give an overall score.
Lighting and sound categories are in reference to light and sound sensitivity. As a person with Autism I have both but it is possible to have one or the other and still be a person with Autism.
Scariness: 1/10
Sadness: 2/10
Sound: 1/10
Lightning: 1/10
Autism Friendly: Yes
Overall Score: 6/10

In my opinion this is a brilliant old classic however there are some issues with part of the film’s contents. Mainly how the Siamese cats are portrayed along with their solo song but this is consistent with attitudes of the film’s time period. This film holds many fond memories for me as I remember watching the video cassette of the film many times as a child with my family.
