The Black Cauldron is the 24th Disney animated feature-length film. It was released on

The film centres around a young pig farmer who longs for an adventure. This wish is achieved by defeating the Horned King with aid from various characters including Princess Eilonwy and Fflewddur Fflam as well as Hen Wen.

Taran was a foundling discovered by Dalben.

In the early development stages of the film, Taran’s age varied between twelve, fifteen, and twenty. Finally, the animators settled on the age of fourteen.

Although it’s implied the Horned King is a sorcerer of some sort, he actually performs very little magic. He displays his powers only to teleport into his castle’s mess hall and to call upon the spirit of the Black Cauldron.

I will rate the film into five categories: lighting, sound, scariness, humour and Autism friendly. I will also give an overall score.

Lighting and sound categories are in reference to light and sound sensitivity.  As a person with Autism I have both but it is possible to have one or the other and still be a person with Autism.

Lighting: 1/10

Sadness: 1/10

Sound: 1/10

Scariness: 7/10

Overall Score: 4/10

Autism Friendly: Yes

My opinion of this film is that its an okay film with darker themes which could appeal to older children. Personally I didn’t enjoy the film as it was too dark and sad.
